Although there are many health benefits from eating salmon, most people choose salmon as it is  meatier than other types of fish.

Salmon is naturally low in calories as well as saturated fats.  However, salmon is high in protein and omega 3 fatty acids, which is essential for your health.  Omega 3 fatty acids help with weight loss, diabetes, helps to control blood pressure, is good for proper heart function and our circulatory system as well.

Another benefit of  salmon includes eye care.  Salmon helps with  dryness, loss of sight and fatigue of your eyes.  It is proven that if you eat fish on a regular basis your eye sight will benefit.

The omega 3 fatty acids in salmon help to control your blood sugar aiding in the prevention of diabetes.

Eating salmon also helps improve your memory and brain function, reduces the risk of certain cancers, keeps your hair, eyes, skin and nails looking and feeling healthier, helps control your blood pressure, helps to prevent Alzheimer’s disease, helps keep your digestive system healthy as well as prevent strokes, blood clots, helps with depression, and also lowers your triglycerides.

There are different varieties of salmon such as Atlantic, pacific, fresh and farm-raised salmon.  Wild salmon is preferred over farm-raised salmon as it is meatier, firmer and  has a deeper color than farm raised, which is artificially colored.  Wild salmon also has a stronger flavor than farm-raised salmon.  You can purchase a whole salmon, fillet or salmon steak.  It is all a matter of preference as to how you are going to serve and prepare the salmon.

Salmon is considered to be one of the most popular fish as well as one of the most nutritious.  If you are looking to eat healthier and have a healthy lifestyle as well as a well balanced diet, then salmon is a good choice for you.

When purchasing salmon look for a dark deep color and always get the freshest fish possible.  Keep in mind when purchasing fish it should have a salty smell of the ocean, not fish.  If it smells like fish it is a sure bet that it is not fresh.
